Josh Radnor understands the urgency behind figuring out whether “How I Met Your Mother” will run for one or two more seasons. He doesn’t, however, know much more than the rest of us about whether a ninth season will actually happen.
“So many things have to drop into place for [a ninth season] to happen,” Radnor told The Hollywood Reporter while promoting his movie “Liberal Arts” in New York this week. “They really need to figure it out because the writers need to know. They’re the pressing issue right now because they have to figure out if they’re wrapping up the show at the end of Season 8 or Season 9.”
“HIMYM” begins its eighth season on Sept. 24, and CBS would like to extend it one more year before wrapping up the long and winding tale of how Ted (Radnor) meets the mother of his future children. The network and producer 20th Century Fox have begun talks about a new season; all five stars are coming to the end of their contracts as well.
“[We’ve] just very recently been approached about that, and we really can’t say either way right now,” Radnor says.
Radnor does have more of a handle on Season 8 and says viewers will be seeing a lot of Ashley Williams as Victoria in the early going.
“We really laugh and just enjoy being around each other,” he says of Williams. “She’s in a bunch. She’s been in I think every episode we’ve shot so far.”
