Stern and NBC reached a deal that will have him taking over for Piers Morgan, who left the series to concentrate on his CNN show. Production of “AGT” will move to New York to allow Stern to keep doing his Sirius/XM radio show from there.
“Howard Stern’s larger-than-life personality will bring a thrilling new dynamic to ‘America’s Got Talent’ starting this summer,” says Paul Telegdy, NBC’s head of alternative programming. “He’s a proven innovator and his track record in broadcasting is truly remarkable. Howard is very passionate about this show and is fully committed to its future success.”
“America’s Got Talent” creator Simon Cowell had pursued Stern pretty much from the moment Morgan announced his departure last month. There were questions about whether the show would move from Los Angeles to New York and whether NBC would meet Stern’s price — he reportedly asked for a $20 million salary.
No one’s talking about Stern’s pay, but it was apparently enough to get him to sign a deal. What do you think of Stern joining “AGT”?
