“Hunger Games” fans, Jennifer Lawrence loves Katniss just as much as you do. “The cool thing about Katniss is that every fan has such a personal relationship with her, and they understand and know her in a singular way,” she tells Teen Vogue. “I’m a massive fan too, so I get it.”
Though, physically, Jennifer doesn’t look much like the way Katniss is described in the books, director Gary Ross and author Suzanne Collins have spoken out in defense of their casting decision.
“She’s incredibly powerful, brave, and tough–and yet she has a tenderness
and complexity,” Jennifer says. “It was very humbling hearing that
Suzanne and Gary feel that I embody those traits.”
It’s not surprising that Lawrence can be girly and tough — she’s been that way for years. “I was a cheerleader for six years, but I also have this totally competitive side. I’ll wrestle anyone at any time,” she says. “I was the manliest cheerleader. I had the lowest voice.”
