Thanksgiving came early for the gang on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” as the show ended Season 9 with “The Gang Squashes Their Beefs.” The title is pretty self-explanatory, as the gang is looking to end feuds with everyone that hates them.
The episode brought back all of the little known characters fans of the show love, from Rickety Cricket (David Hornsby) to Gail The Snail (Mary Lynn Rajskub), making her second appearance on the show. It all starts when Mac (Rob McElhenney) and Dennis (Glenn Howerton) try to rent a DVD, only to find the McPoyles in charge of the store. As they hate the gang, the McPoyles ban them for life.
With so much bad blood, the gang holds a Thanksgiving feast with all of their enemies, leading to more cameos than you could possibly imagine. The gang does everything they can to end their feuds, well everything besides actually apologizing, but nothing seems to work as the situation turns dire.
The problem with bringing all of their enemies together is nothing gets solved. As TV Thanksgiving tends to go, the feast ends in a food fight. Unlike most, Cricket takes an ax to the arm. Frank (Danny DeVito) puts a nice bow on the idea by lighting a fire, while Dennis traps their enemies in the burning apartment. Happy Thanksgiving, indeed.
What did you think of “The Gang Squashes Their Beefs” and Season 9 as a whole?
