James Franco flirting with a teenager on Instagram? The potentially scandalous allegations began to appear on Thursday (April 3) with leaks of an Instagram conversation between the 35-year-old actor and a 17-year-old Scottish tourist, Lucy Clode.
But Franco isn’t the type to ignore anything. Within a day, he appeared on “Live with Kelly and Michael” to discuss the situation.
Saying he feels awkward and embarrassed about the whole thing, Franco points out how the world of social media can be “tricky.”
“It’s a way people meet each other today, but what I’ve learned — I guess just because I’m new to it — you don’t know who’s on the other end. You meet somebody in person, and you get a feel for them, but you don’t know who you’re talking to. So, I used bad judgment and I learned my lesson. But, unfortunately in my position, I have a very good life, but not only do I have to go through the embarrassing kind of rituals of meeting someone, sometimes if I do that then it gets published for the world. So now it’s doubly embarrassing.”
Franco apparently met Clode at his Broadway show, “Of Mice and Men,” when the teen took an Instagram video of the two of them together. They later began to flirt on Instagram, and supposedly Franco wanted to arrange a date at her hotel.
That date never happened, and Franco does not appear to have initially known the girl’s age.
Will Franco’s open admission of his gaffe be enough to stop any scandal in its tracks? Considering that the guy didn’t actually do anything, it probably will. It’s just another cautionary tale from the world of social media.
