An autopsy on Emmy-winning actor James Gandolfini confirms the cause of his death this week as a heart attack.
Gandolfini, 51, died Wednesday (June 19) while on vacation with his son in Rome. Gandolfini’s friend Michael Kobold, who is acting as a spokesman for the family, tells Reuters the autopsy showed “nothing out of the ordinary.”
“There was no foul play, there was no substance abuse,” Kobold says.
Kobold also says he knew of no previous heart problems for “The Sopranos” star: “He was happy. He was healthy. He was doing really fine.”
The family is working with Italian officials to expedite the return of Gandolfini’s body to the United States. A funeral in New York is tentatively planned for late next week.
