Jani Lane, who once led hair-rock band Warrant to the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with the 1989 hit “Cherry Pie,” is dead at 47.
Lane, according to TMZ, was found dead at a Woodland Hills, Calif., Comfort Inn hotel.
Although Lane left Warrant permanently in 2004, he continued with his musical career, releasing a solo album and touring as a stand-in lead singer for Great White on a 2010 tour. In 2005, Lane also appeared on VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club.”
No cause of death has yet been released, but Lane is known to have a history of alcohol abuse. In 2010, Lane was ordered to serve 120 days in jail for a DUI conviction.
