Country music star Jason Aldean‘s split from wife of nearly 12 years, Jessica Ussery, is a little more official than previously believed.
Though Aldean announced on Friday (April 26) that he and his wife were separating after his recent rendezvous with former “American Idol” contestant Brittany Kerr, TMZ reports that the singer filed for divorce in Tennessee on the same day, citing “irreconcilable differences” with the mother of his two children.
On Friday, Aldean’s rep spoke with Us Weekly, clearly trying to downplay the seriousness of the matter: “I can confirm that Jason and his wife are having problems, but there is nothing more to share at this time. It’s a private family matter, and we hope everyone will respect that he would like to keep it that way.”
After paparazzi photos of Aldean kissing Kerr at a bar on the Sunset Strip in L.A. back in September of 2012, the “1994” singer apologized via Facebook. “I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar,” he wrote at the time. “I left alone, caught the bus to our next show and that’s the end of the story. I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself.”
