Whatever caused Solange Knowles to go after her brother-in-law Jay Z in an elevator 10 days ago, it’s cool now.
Knowles, Jay Z and Beyonce Knowles (Solange’s sister and Jay’s wife) issued a joint statement Thursday (May 15) saying they’ve moved past the elevator fight, which was captured on leaked security-camera footage.
“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident,” the statement reads. “But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it.
“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”
The incident occurred in an elevator at the Standard Hotel in Manhattan following the Met Gala on May 5. No one involved has spoken about what caused Solange Knowles to punch and kick at Jay Z, although a number of reports (including this one from the New York Daily News) claim Solange was upset that fashion designer Rachel Roy had been flirting with Jay Z at a party at the hotel following the gala. Which, frankly, isn’t nearly as fun as some of the other theories about what happened.
The Standard says it has fired the employee who leaked the video.
