Jenna Talackova has been in the press in recent months because she was disqualified from the Miss Universe Canada pageant for being transgender, only to be reinstated amidst public outcry, most notably from GLAAD.
The actual pageant has finally arrived, with preliminaries starting Thursday night (May 19) in Toronto, where the 24-year-old took the stage for the evening gown and swimsuit competitions. Jenna wore a white gown with an open back for the evening wear portion and a white bikini for the swimwear event.
Unfortunately, Talackova was not awarded any of the titles that would have automatically put her into Saturday night’s final round, reports CTV. “Best Body,” “Best Runway Model,” “SOS Humanitarian,” “Audience Favorite” and “People’s Choice” were the awards that automatically advance the contestants.
Saturday night, the contestants will have more competitions plus the interview portion of the pageant and the winner will be crowned at the end of the night.
