Jennie Garth is teaming back up with former “Beverly Hills 90210” co-star Tori Spelling for a new half-hour comedy on ABC Family called “Mystery Girls.” It’s about two former ’90s TV stars who are now using their knowledge from being on a mystery show to solve mysteries in real life. Garth tells Zap2it it’s so much fun for them and it’ll be really fun for the viewers too.
“It’s fun for everybody that was a fan of [‘Beverly Hills, 90210],” says Garth. “And it’s super fun for Tori and I to be working together again, we’re really excited about it.”
“We just finished shooting the pilot this week,” she continues. “It’s campy — we make fun of the idea of having a ’90s hit so that’s sort of making fun of ourselves. There are a lot of parallels between Tori and I and the ‘Mystery Girls.’ We have a good time with it.”
Since it’s not an hour-long procedural type show, definitely look for a lot of silly humor and fun times from the girls.
“It’s going to be on the lighter side for sure. They used to be this crime-fighting duo on television and they become a mystery-solving, crime-fighting duo in real life,” says Garth. “They use their television kowledge from all the crimes they fought on TV, which seemed so real to them at the time, they use those tools in the real world, which ends up being pretty funny. It’s silly, good fun.”
Before “Mystery Girls” comes to ABC Family in 2014, be sure to check out Garth in ABC Family’s original holiday movie “Holidaze,” which premieres Sunday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
