“Absolutely Fabulous,” the outrageous British comedy starring Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley as drunken middle-aged party girls in London, has been on TV on and off since 1992. It initially ran for three seasons in consecutive years in the early 1990s, but since then has sporadically aired new seasons and several specials.
A film has been in the works for years, and now creator and star Jennifer Saunders confirms to the South Wales Evening Post that she’s working on a script.
“I am writing the film as we speak — it’s in the pipeline,” says Saunders at the 2014 Hay Festival, “I am hoping it will be released by the end of next year.”
This is a step up from what Saunders was saying just a month ago, when she told the Sydney Telegraph that the script had hardly been written. But she did say that “Glee’s” Chris Colfer is one of the many people to whom she has promised a spot in the film.
“You know ‘Glee,’ I’ve promised Chris Colfer that he can be in it, and I’ve said it so often that now he has to be in it,” says Saunders. “I’ve promised so many people they’re going to be in it and I haven’t even written it. I’m
not going to tell you (how much has been written) because it frightens
me. Let’s just say it’s early stages but I will not renege on that bet.”
