Jessa Duggar, 20, fifth child of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, is off the market. According to People, she has entered into a courtship – that’s not dating – with a family friend from church, Ben Seewald, 18, of Hot Springs, AR.
What’s the difference between dating and a courtship? According to Jim Bob, courting is spending time together in a family/group situation, where dating is more one-on-one, saving the family interaction for later on.
As for physical interaction, that is a definite no-way, not-happening. Michelle states that they were allowed “side-hugs” once they were officially courting. “Jessa and Ben have said that was the only contact they would have, when they initially greet each other,” she says. If Jessa is following in Duggar courtship tradition, there won’t even be any kissing until the first kiss on the wedding day, like her big brother Josh and his bride Anna (but we will say, during their courtship, they took hand-holding to whole new Olympic-level complexities.)
“We are so excited for Ben and Jessa,” Jim Bob tells People. “They are enjoying getting to know each other and are recommending sermons to one another.” Sounds lovely.
The Duggars will be back on TV starting Tuesday, Sept. 17 for the season premiere of their TLC show “19 Kids and Counting,” when hopefully Ben will be introduced. Stay tuned for “side-hugs” to start sweeping the nation. Best of luck, Jessa and Ben.
