The biggest news of the day is that J.K. Rowling released a new “Harry Potter” short story set after the epilogue of the final novel. Told from the perspective of tabloid reporter Rita Skeeter, the very short piece offers an update on all of the characters in the series, including Harry, who is now 34 and has “threads of silver” in his hair.
“Is the Chosen One embroiled in fresh mysteries that will one day explode upon us all, plunging us into a new age of terror and mayhem?” Skeeter asks in the report, which was posted on Pottermore
. It’s a premise that excited many “Potter” fans, but not the film franchise’s former star, Daniel Radcliffe.
Promoting Season 2 of “A Young Doctor’s Notebook,” Radcliffe appeared via satellite at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. He was asked whether he would be interested in reprising the role of 34-year-old Harry, and he says it’s not something he thinks should even be discussed yet.
“I don’t know. My inclination is to say no,” he says. “It’s not even hypothetical at the moment, really. What she’s written — I haven’t read it yet; I’m going to read it — as I understand is a very, very short piece that I’m not sure is of itself worthy to film. He’s at least 12 years older in it than I am now. I don’t think I’ll have to worry about that for a long time, I’m hoping.”
“A Young Doctor’s Notebook & Other Stories” premieres Aug. 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Ovation.
