Sunday night, before a live crowd of 80,676, World Wrestling Entertainment invaded MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for their “Wrestlemania” event. The annual show is the company’s biggest, and ends a week of activities in the host city, similar to the Super Bowl.
This year’s “Wrestlemania” featured a main event match between WWE mainstay John Cena and wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Johnson won the company’s championship title in January at the “Royal Rumble.” Sunday’s contest follows a match between the two at 2012’s “Wrestlemania,” where Johnson was the victor.
Evening the score, Cena won Sunday, capturing the WWE Championship in the process. After the 24-minute match, Cena and Johnson shook hands and embraced to end the show.
Elsewhere on the card, The Undertaker remained undefeated in “Wrestlemania” matches, besting CM Punk, and increasing his streak to 21-0. The show’s other headline match featured former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar facing part-time wrestler and WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent Triple H. After a brutal contest, Triple H emerged victorious.
WWE has announced the host of 2014’s “Wrestlemania.” The event will be held in New Orleans, La. at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which was also home of the 2013 Super Bowl. “Wrestlemania 30” will take place April 6, 2014.
