johnny-carson-miniseries-NBC-john-slattery.jpgNBC is developing a miniseries based on the life of comedian and long-time “Tonight Show” host Johnny Carson. The project will use upcoming biography “Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait” by Bill Zehme as the jumping-off point, with the miniseries covering everything from Carson’s childhood growing up in Nebraska to his off-camera friendships to his 30 years on “The Tonight Show.”

Zehme and John Davies, the man behind NBC’s Emmy-nominated “Comedy Salute to Andy Kaufman,” will executive produce. Casting for the role of Carson will be named at a later time, but we’ve already got a suggestion — “Mad Men” star John Slattery (pictured above).

What do you think of our choice? Of course, there’s always Dana Carvey. He does do a mean Johnny Carson.
