Johnny Weir, possibly the most controversial Olymic skater since Tonya Harding, has been announced as a judge for ABC’s first season of “Skating With the Stars.” Weir will be joined on the judges panel by choreographer Laurieann Gibson, and Olympian Dick Button.
In its press release, ABC refers to Weir, who learned to skate at age 12 on frozen cornfields behind his home, as “skating’s most unpredictable star,” so they’re clearly hoping for some wacky antics there. Gibson is best known for her pop choreography, having worked with Michael Jackson, Alicia Keys, Dixie Chicks, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce.
Button is now a beloved skating commentator, but once was a force to be reckoned with on the ice. “Button
is the only skater to ever achieve what could be considered a “grand
slam” of figure skating, having captured the United States, North
American, European, World and Olympic championships all in the same year
– 1948″ reads the press release.
The contestants, Bethenny Frankel, Brandon Mychal Smith, Jonny Moseley, Rebecca Budig, Sean Young and Vince Neil, will take to the ice in front of a live audience on Monday, Nov. 22.
