Disturbing news from the NFL this morning: Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, 25, shot and killed his 22-year-old girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, and then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and killed himself in front of his coach and general manager.
TMZ reports that Belcher shot Perkins — the mother of his three month old child — multiple times, and her mother was a witness. Family members tell TMZ that the violent tragedy came as an “utter shock” and the couple had a seemingly happy relationship.
According to TMZ, Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel did not fear for their lives but did attempt to prevent Belcher from committing additional violence before he ultimately took his own life.
The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Carolina Panthers tomorrow.
