“House” star Jesse Spencer has joined the NBC drama pilot “Chicago Fire.” Spencer will play the lead, Matthew Casey, who is a heroic firefighter also dealing with his separation from his wife. He joins the already-cast David Eigenberg and Taylor Kinney. [Deadline]

NBC’s drama “Midnight Sun” has cast Julia Stiles as the female lead, which follows the mysterious disappearance of a group living in a commune in Alasha. Stiles will play an FBI cult specialist leading the investigation. Stiles previously starred in a season of “Dexter” as Lumen, a victim/love interest of Dexter. [Deadline]
Jeff Goldblum, recently see on “Glee” and “The League,” has been cast as a guest star for NBC’s Sarah Silverman comedy pilot, now titled “Susan 313.” Goldblum will play Silverman’s ex-boyfriend she used to live with. NBC’s new comedy “Animal Kingdom” has cast newcomer Amy Huberman as the female lead. Justin Kirk is Dr. George Coleman, a veterinarian who loves animals but hates their owners. Huberman will play Coleman’s ex-girlfriend who runs the animal hospital.
The CW’s prequel to “Sex and the City,” “The Carrie Diaries,” has cast its male lead in newcomer Austin Butler and Carrie’s male BFF in Brendan Dooling. The show is set in the 1980s and features a young Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) in high school in Manhattan. [Deadline]

Byrd plays a brilliant film editor who is totally broke. And Annabeth Gish (“Pretty Little Liars,” “The West Wing”) has joined ABC’s “Americana,” a soap focusing on the world of an iconic fashion designer (Anthony LaPaglia).
