It’s a rare occurrence in Hollywood for an established star to change their name after getting married, but for Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, it was a no-brainer.
The “Big Bang Theory” star hyphenated her name after marrying pro tennis player Ryan Sweeting at the close of last year, a change that the hit CBS show has reflected in its opening credits. Appearing on “CBS This Morning” on Tuesday (Feb. 25), Cuoco-Sweeting revealed she wanted to add the name as soon as possible.
“I’m so happy,” she says. “I felt like it was a respectful thing to do.”
Cuoco-Sweeting’s relationship moved at a surprisingly swift pace, with an announced engagement in September of last year, after just three months of dating her beau. The pair waited only another three months to tie the knot.
As the actress explains it, she “absolutely” knew it was meant to be on the second date.
“We both knew. I’ve been in previous relationships with great people and I just never saw, though, that end and that marriage. I knew it wasn’t the right thing,” Cuoco-Sweeting explains. “Ryan and I met and it was completely hearts in our eyes and I get emotional talking about it because he’s the most wonderful person in the world. We couldn’t be happier.”
“The Big Bang Theory” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
