On Tuesday, “Vampire Diaries” actress Kat Graham performed her single “Put Your Graffiti On Me” on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” but instead of wearing her signature ’90s couture garb, Kat surprised fans with a girl scout themed ensemble.
She wore the costume — and announced, “In my scout troop, everyone’s welcome” — in support of Jennifer Tyrrell, an Ohio mother who was ousted as her son’s Boy Scouts of America troop leader because she is gay. Despite a petition signed by 275,000 Americans, Scout officials have told the AP that they have “no plans to revisit the Scouts’ policy of not allowing gays.”
Kat is the latest in a long list of celebrities who have thrown support behind Tyrrell, including Julianne Moore, Josh Hutcherson, Ricky Martin, Max Adler, Grant Gustin, Tamra Barney, Chaz Bono, Tabatha Coffey, Trevor Donovan, Fran Drescher, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lisa Lampanelli, and Joshua Jackson.
Watch Kat’s performance below, and if you dig the song, you can pick up her next single, “Heartkiller,” for free on iTunes today. She’s also just released her new EP, “Against the Wall,” the first offering to come out of her new record deal with A&M/Octone.
