Kate Upton is reportedly “furious” with Victoria’s Secret for including an image of her in the brand’s new catalogue without first getting her consent. Not only did Victoria’s Secret not get the model’s permission before using a photo of her wearing a black Body by Victoria bra, but a source confirms that the shot of Upton is actually from 2011.
“Kate’s not currently contracted to work with Victoria’s Secret, and they didn’t contact her before they used these images,” an insider tells The New York Post.
Victoria’s Secret confirms to The Huffington Post that the photo in question “is from a previous shoot.” Upton has worked with Victoria’s Secret in the past and modeled pajamas and bras for the brand in 2011, so this new shot is likely from that shoot. Of course, Victoria’s Secret had a bit of a falling out with Upton in the time between that original shoot and the present day.
In a 2012 interview with The New York Times, Victoria’s Secret’s casting director Sophia Neophitou told the newspaper why she would never hire Upton.
“[Upton is] too obvious. She’s like a Page 3 girl. She’s like a footballer’s wife, with the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy,” Neophitou said. “We would never use [Upton].”
Clearly time (and Upton’s rise to fame) has changed that stance. As of press time, Upton had not commented about the image’s usage on her Twitter account.
