With her contract up in June, media pundits have been speculating on whether Katie Couric will leave her post as the anchor at the “CBS Evening News.” Of course, the only person whose opinion counts is Couric’s. And she says she’s still deciding.
“I’m figuring out what I want to do,” she says on Wednesday’s (March 23) episode of the “Late Show with David Letterman,” “I’m just sort of in the process of figuring out the future.”
David Letterman, though, wasn’t having it. “Once you take the anchor chair, that’s what you do,” he tells her. “It’s not like a temp gig.”
He then proceeded to name several anchors who had spent long tenures in the post.
“They get in it, they saddle up, and they ride into the sunset,” he tells a giggling Couric. “Into the sunset!”
Letterman’s guilt trip didn’t stop there. He then told her that it took time to build up the trust and respect of an evening anchor and she couldn’t do that to the viewers.
Couric didn’t seem too moved. She replied, “OK.”
Dave, we’re sure she went home and mulled over your words of wisdom. Or not.
