Could Katie Couric and Matt Lauer be planning a TV reunion? In recent weeks, rumors have swirled that both anchors are unhappy in their current gigs — Couric is anchor of the “CBS Evening News” and Lauer is still where Couric left him five years ago, co-hosting NBC’s “Today” show.
Now the New York Times is reporting that NBC exec Jeff Zucker, who originally paired the two for “Today,” may have a plan to bring them back together.
“I think the three of them think it would be awesome to get together again,” a source tells the Times. “It still seems more likely NBC will keep Matt. But it’s not out of the question.”
Hey, since Lauer’s current “Today” co-host Meredith Vieira is also rumored to be looking to jump ship, maybe Couric can just hop back into her old chair at NBC. Yet again leaving Ann Curry as the perpetual bridesmaid.
