An 18-year-old Boston man was arrested in connection with an alleged rape at Keith Urban’s Mansfield, Mass. concert on July 26, in which 22 concert-goers were hospitalized and 50 were taken into police custody. The “American Idol” judge has issued a statement about the incident, saying he is “horrified” about what took place.
“My team and I were horrified to learn of the events reported in Boston this past weekend and our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected,” Urban says in a statement via the Boston Herald. “This type of behavior stands in stark contrast to the spirit of our shows.”
The man was arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl at Urban’s Raise ‘Em Up tour, although Mansfield police tell the Herald that fellow concert-goers assisted the victim and recorded the assault on their cell phones, which police say are being used to “recover the digital evidence of the assault.”
The tour stop made national news after the particularly rowdy crowd became uncontrollable, resulting in the mass hospitalizations and arrests.
