Kerri Strug became America’s sweetheart in 1996 when she nailed a vault at the Atlanta Olympics, landing on one foot after spraining her ankle on a previous attempt.
We’ve found new Olympic heroines since then, but Strug is now someone’s sweetheart for life. The gold medal winner married Robert Fischer III on Sunday (April 25).
Strug, 32, now works as a project manager in the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in Washington. She and Fischer, a lawyer who works for Texas Congressman Lamar Smith, met nearly two years ago.
“We met for drinks in Washington, just a block from my office, and had a very enjoyable conversation,” Strug tells The New York Times. “He seemed to be a very good listener, and we had a lot in common.”
