Comedy Central launched a new sketch comedy show Tuesday night (Jan. 31), “Key and Peele,” featuring comics Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele. The format is that Key and Peele alternate some stand-up bits in front of a live audience with pre-taped sketches.
The stand-up bits were funny, particularly the on-going discussion about how they are both half-white and half-black, which can be a challenge. As Key says, “Because of that, we find ourselves particularly adept at lying. Because on a daily basis we have to adjust our blackness.”
And Peele adds, “Because you never want to be the whitest-sounding black guy in a room.”
The sketches were hit and miss. The “b****” sketch was a very funny premise, but it went on a little long. And we kept waiting for the wives to get more to do in the bit. The reality show sketch, which featured Key as the token British judge doing the patented British-judge-fake-out-praise-criticism was pretty hilarious.
The President Obama sketch also made us giggle at times and Peele definitely has a good President Obama impression to keep trotting out.
We’ve included some video clips here in case you missed it. What did you think? Will you be tuning in again?
