TMZ.com reports that Bell and Shepard had gone to the Beverly Hills County Clerk office for a marriage license. When a court employee offered to conduct the wedding right there and then, however, the two jumped at the chance. A photographer was there to capture the moment, and eyewitnesses said that Bell shed a few tears. The short and simple ceremony was conducted in a courtroom on the premises.
Bell (“House of Lies”) and Shepard (“Parenthood”) have been together for years and had their first child together this summer. Despite this, the couple chose not to get engaged until the Supreme Court ended a ban on gay marriages. Shepard’s re-proposal from Bell quickly followed when this indeed happened.
As for the simple and possibly spontaneous wedding, it’s not out of character either. TMZ quotes Bell as having said “We just want something sort of private that involves pen and paper” when asked about wedding plans.
That does seem to be what they got.
