UPDATE: Dax Shepard says he appreciates the honor but cannot accept it. In a tweet he reveals that while he did go vegan for a year, he’s been eating chicken for six months. “I aspire to be more like @IMKristenBell, but I’m not there yet,” he writes.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have announced the new reigning sexiest celebrity vegetarians. Beating out the likes of Anne Hathaway, Morrissey, Sarah Silverman and Bill Clinton (What?), Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell are now king and queen of veggie mountain.
Bell, currently filming the “Veronica Mars” movie, has been a vegetarian since she was 11 years old. Eventually, she decided to go full vegan and convinced her fiance, Dax, to take the journey with her. “I have fewer body aches. My skin looks better,” he says, “I’m never starving, and I never need to ride the couch feeling completely full and disgusting.” One might wonder how he copes without steak, though.
This isn’t the first time Bell has made one of PETA’s lists. She was also named World’s Sexiest Vegetarian in 2006. She tells the group in an interview, “I had a hard time disassociating the animals I cuddled with — dogs and cats, for example — from the animals on my plate, and I never really cared for the taste of meat. I always loved my Brussels sprouts!” Of course, PETA’s care of those cuddly animals has been called into question in the past.
It’s been a big week for Bell and Shepard, who were waiting for Prop 8 to be done away with before getting married. After the announcement that it was struck down Wednesday (June 26), Kristen proposed over Twitter, which Dax quickly accepted.
