“We actually did it. I can officially call him my husband, which is pretty awesome,” Bell tells People of Shepard. “Other than that, it feels exactly the same.”
The couple were engaged in late 2009, but famously refused to tie the knot until gay couples were granted the right to marry. When the U.S. Supreme Court overturned California’s Prop 8 in June 2013, Kristen tweeted a renewed proposal to Dax.
But by early October, the couple who share an infant daughter, Lincoln Shepard, and a couple of canines, still had not made it official. “We just haven’t gotten it together on a Saturday to get to the court house,” Kristen said at the time. “But we have every intention to.”
And that they did on Oct. 17. As for their new situation … “Life is great,” Bell says. “I couldn’t be happier.”
