Kristen Stewart has publicly confirmed the rumors of her infidelity.
On Tuesday afternoon, People broke the news that Stewart had cheated on her longtime “Twilight” co-star boyfriend, Robert Pattinson, with “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders. Us quickly followed up with photographic evidence of their dalliance — last week, a photog caught Sanders and Stewart in an intimate embrace in Los Angeles and making out in her car.
Fans of Stewart and Pattinson immediately took to Tumblr, claiming that the photos were manipulated, that Stewart would never cheat on Pattinson, and that Us had made up the story in an attempt to get Stewart to publicly confirm her relationship with Pattinson.
Those fans are probably not having the best day today. Now, Stewart has admitted to the fling with Sanders. “I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those
close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion
has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love
and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry,” she tells People in an unusually candid and emotional statement.
Pattinson must be reeling from the public revelations — we spotted him and Stewart looking awfully snuggly backstage at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, though her hookup with Sanders is said to have happened just last Thursday. By Monday, Stewart’s reps had been made aware of the photo evidence and had to act fast to spin the story as best they could.
Pattinson isn’t the only one hurting, of course. The 41-year-old Sanders is married and has two children with model Liberty Ross.
UPDATE: Sanders has also issued a statement to People. “I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and
heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my
heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”
