Hot on the heel of the release of her music video for “Applause,” it’s been announced that Lady Gaga will open the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards with a performance of the song. The track is the first single from her new album, “ARTPOP.” She joins an already impressive list of performers, including Kanye West, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus.
Gaga has a history of truly unique VMA appearances, including her very memorable performance of “Paparazzi” in 2010, which left the singer covered in blood. Who knows what she has in store for her newest song, but chances are she’ll be looking to outdo herself.
The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards are live from Brooklyn’s Barclay Center on August 25 at 9 p.m. ET. “ARTPOP” is in stores on November 11.
