TNT got strong ratings Sunday night (June 22) for the premiere of its new drama “The Last Ship.”
The series, starring Eric Dane as the captain of a U.S. warship searching for a home after a global pandemic strikes, scored a robust 5.3 million viewers in its premiere Sunday — beating the debut of ABC’s heavily hyped “Rising Star” and scoring the top series premiere on cable thus far in 2014.
About a third of that audience (1.7 million) was in TNT’s target demographic of adults 25-54, and 1.5 million people age 18-49 tuned in.
Adding in a replay later in the night, “The Last Ship” reached 7.4 million viewers, 2.6 million adults 25-54 and 2.3 million adults 18-49.
The Season 4 premiere of “Falling Skies” also put up solid numbers for TNT. The premiere drew 3.7 million ratings, down some from the 4.2 million who watched the Season 3 premiere but still tops in its time period on cable. An encore pushed the total audience for the night to 4.7 million.
