Lauryn Hill, who won eight Grammys between 1996 and 2000, is in a spot of trouble. The R&B singer is reportedly being sued for eviction and her sentencing for tax fraud is scheduled for this coming week.
According to TMZ, Hill has been renting a house in South Orange, NJ, but last month she allegedly failed to pay rent, so her landlord has filed a lawsuit to either get the rent paid immediately or evict the singer.
Meanwhile, Hill pled guilty to tax evasion in 2012, for failing to pay taxes from 2005 to 2007 — a period she said in a statement on her website where she was “underground,” building a community of like-minded people who want to live “lives without being manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex with a completely different agenda.”
Hill has asked for leniency in her tax evasion case sentencing, but she could earn up to several years in federal prison.
