“Glee” star Lea Michele visited “Chelsea Lately” on Thursday (May 29), and of course Michele and host Chelsea Handler delved straight into the more controversial subjects.
It turns out that Michele had her first experiences with wine as a small child. Why did Michele start drinking at an early age? Don’t worry — it’s not scandalous, just family.
“I’m Italian, so at the dinner table it would be Pellegrino, like a jug of soda and a huge thing of wine,” Michele says. “And so everyone was just drinking wine. It was part of what you would have along with your dinner. Then, growing up, I’d be having like dinner with my boyfriend and his parents, and I’d be like, ‘Where’s the wine? Pass the wine.’ At like 17. And they’re like, ‘This girl’s crazy.'”
Michele is hardly apologetic for this upbringing too, pointing out that easy access to wine meant she never wanted to experiment with alcohol. “I think the good thing was, when they make it so that you can have it, you don’t want it,” she explains. “It’s when they’re like, ‘You can’t have this’ that kids are like ‘We’ve gotta get that booze …'”
Moving on to the topic of plastic surgery, Michele makes it clear that she doesn’t really approve of young people changing their looks. She relates a story about how she was counseled to get a nose job when only 13. Michele didn’t, but jokes that maybe she will in the very distant future.
“Wait until you’re like 70 or 80, and then just go for it,” she says.
