LeAnn Rimes has been in and out of headlines for several years now, starting with when she met current husband Eddie Cibrian on the set of TV movie “Northern Lights.” Both were married to other people at the time and caused quite a stir when they began a relationship.
“It’s definitely been a turbulent four years and to say I’ve been on several rollercoasters is an understatement,” the singer tells the Daily Mail in a new interview.
She goes on to say that her latest album, “Spitfire,” which dropped April 15, was heavily influenced by her recent experiences.
“I think the last four years of my life just came out through my music,” says Rimes. “I don’t think I expected the album to be this honest, but I found that the emotions just came pouring out of me. It was liberating and cathartic to write, but it wasn’t easy.”
Something else that hasn’t been easy for Rimes is dealing with the criticism about her recent actions and also about her weight, with people saying she had an eating disorder when she looked very thin a couple years ago. Rimes is pictured above, left, in a recent Twitter photo, and above, right, in 2011.
“People said I was [anorexic] but I didn’t have a problem with eating, as I ate a ton all the time — I could eat my husband under the table,” says Rimes. “But I was going through a time when I just wasn’t sleeping — my mind wouldn’t shut off and my heart was breaking.”
“Now I’m secure about my body, although I’m like any other woman and have my moments of self doubt. But it’s nice to have a husband who tells you you’re beautiful all the time. I’ll say to him, ‘I’ve gained a few pounds’ and he’ll say, ‘Good.'” says Rimes.
She adds that she’s learned to deal with the critics, particularly the ones who engage her online.
“I have considered staying off [social media] but I’ve basically just learned to deal with the criticism. The people who do it hide behind a computer screen and don’t even show themselves. It’s interesting to have people judge you but have no idea about who you really are and what you’re all about.”
