They may not have ended up together at the end of “Gossip Girl,” but Lily van der Woodsen and Rufus Humphrey may get another shot at love.
No, we’re not talking the rumored “Gossip Girl” movie — as far as we know, that’s still just a rumor. But Lifetime is staging an onscreen reunion between Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle, the two actors behind the only adult on-and-off romance on The CW’s teen soap drama.
Lifetime’s newest original movie “A Sister’s Nightmare,” also starring Petyon List and Natasha Henstridge, just cast Rutherford and Settle. The movie is about an intense sibling rivalry and dark family secrets.
Police officer Jane Rydert’s (Rutherford) life goes into a tailspin when her sister Cassidy (Henstridge) is discharged from the state hospital for the criminally insane, and shows up at her door needing a place to stay. Jane never told her teenage daughter that she had a sister and her fiance, Phil (Settle), knows very little. Cassidy is the skeleton in Jane’s closet, after she went on a rampage 16 years earlier, shot her husband to death, and attempted to murder their baby. A dangerous rivalry and past familiarities return, Jane is unable to prove her sister is still harmful to society and takes matters into her own hands to protect her family.
You can watch Lily and Rufus return to TV — though as different characters — when “A Sister’s Nightmare” premieres on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
