Nicholas Sparks is going back in time for his next soapy drama — and this time, he’s taking his talents to the small screen.
The king of romantic dramas’ next big project is “Deliverance Creek,” Lifetime’s Civil War-era movie starring Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under”). The two-hour TV movie is designed to be a potential backdoor pilot, and based on its performance, Sparks will continue with “Deliverance Creek” as a TV series.
The first trailer for the revenge-centric period piece debuted on Tuesday (May 27). Two years into the war, widowed mother of three Belle (Ambrose) is forced to become an outlaw in order to defend her family’s land. Belle faces the question of whether to be good or survive, and her choice sets off a chain of events with high stakes for everyone. And while “Deliverance Creek” lacks quite a few of Sparks’ romantic drama staples, there will still probably be a rain scene, because of course.
