“Every road that’s wrong. Seems like the road I’m on. Every sign just seems unclear, won’t you come switch me on?” So begins the latest track released from the soundtrack to Zach Braff’s Kickstarter-funded film, “Wish I Was Here.”
The title song is a special collaboration between Coldplay and Cat Power, done over beautifully melodic piano.
Braff tells NPR it is his favorite cut on the soundtrack, and he achieved the dream duet in the same way Bon Iver’s song for the film was created — by sending Coldplay frontman Chris Martin a rough cut of the film and then having him construct a tune based on the emotions the movie inspired.
However, it was Martin’s idea to have the main vocal be female to represent the powerful, feminine presence of Kate Hudson’s character in the film — enter Cat Power’s Chan Marshall.
Listen to “Wish I Was Here” by Cat Power and Coldplay at NPR and catch the film when it hit theaters July 18.
