Madonna, who was once married to director Guy Ritchie, will be taking the helm this time.
The pop star is set to direct “W.E.,” a film that follows the romance between King Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson, reports Variety. She’ll also help write the script with Alex Keshinshian (“Truth or Dare”).
“Up in the Air” Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga is circling the role of Wallis Simpson.
Born Bessie Wallis Warfield, Wallis was an American socialite who, before her second marriage ended, was already seeing Prince Edward, who was first in line for the throne. Months into his reign, he proposed to Wallis. The romance caused quite a stir for that day since Wallis Simpson was twice divorced with two living ex-husbands.
Eventually, Edward abdicated the throne to marry Wallis and was named the Duke of Windsor by his brother, King George VI. Once Edward wed Wallis six months later, she was formally known as the Duchess of Windsor.
