Since the series divides the singers into groups led by each panelist on the judges’ table, Mariah would reportedly serve as the adviser to Cowell’s group. A source close to the talks says Cowell is “still finalizing her deal.”
It’s nothing new that Carey’s name come into the fold with the U.S. version of “X Factor.” She was originally in negotiations to serve alongside Cowell as a judge, but those spots ultimately went to Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger.
“There’s certain sections on the show where we do have well-known people helping us on the show and there’s a section on the show I’m hoping Mariah will get involved with,” Cowell told reporters at the “X-Factor” presentation at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “She’s been enthusiastic from day one, but then selfishly got pregnant which is why she didn’t end up as a judge.”
No matter what Carey’s involvement may end up being, “X-Factor” premieres Sept. 21 on FOX.
