“You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better,” says Damon, a former Obama cheerleader.
“I’ve talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level,” he adds. “One of them said to me, ‘Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politician.'”
That’s a far cry from Damon pal George Clooney, who has gone on the record several times to disparage Democrats who have “turned” on Obama. In October, Clooney told ABC News he was “disillusioned by the people who are disillusioned by Obama.”
“Democrats eat their own,” he said. “Democrats find singular issues and go, ‘Well, I didn’t get everything I wanted.’ I’m a firm believer in sticking by and sticking up for the people whom you’ve elected.”
At the Venice Film Festival in August, Clooney quickly shut down rumors that he planned to run for president, adding:
“Look, there’s a guy in office who is smarter than anybody you know, and nicer, and he’s having an almost impossible time governing.”
