Floyd Mayweather took the super welterweight championship from Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 5. He grabbed his 43rd win while dealing with a jail sentence and a younger, stronger fighter in Cotto.
Mayweather still managed to protect his 42-0 record against his opponent in 12 rounds and 36 minutes. Mayweather’s signature moves were effective against Cotto in the first few rounds, but the younger fighter got smart and stayed around the outside, causing Mayweather to falter a bit. He came back in the end and won with a unanimous decision. Now? Off to jail to serve an 87-day sentence in a domestic case, which may be reduced to 57
days with good behavior.
