On Sunday (March 18), “The Walking Dead” ended the show’s second season with a dramatic reveal — the introduction of a new character: the much-anticipated Michonne. She appeared for only a few seconds — long enough to come to Andrea’s rescue when she was about to become a zombie’s dinner.
Although we didn’t get a peek at the actress hiding beneath the hood, she’s actress Danai Gurira, who last charmed us as Jill on HBO’s “Treme” and was one third of the amazing cast that made up the 2007 Oscar-nominated sleeper hit “The Visitor.” She’s also showed up in guest spots on “Law & Order,” “Lie to Me” and “Life on Mars.”
According to her IMDB profile, Gurira was born in Iowa to parents from Zimbabwe and when she was five, the family moved back to their home country. Gurira has an MFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and co-authored the play “In the Continuum.”
