Mellody Hobson married “Star Wars” creator George Lucas in a private ceremony at Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch. The happy couple were engaged for six short months before tying the knot, but their relationship has been going strong since 2006.
While this is inarguably a case of May-December romance — Lucas is 69 and his bride is 44 — Hobson is anything but a trophy wife. She’s certainly beautiful enough that one might make that assumption, but Hobson is a highly successful businesswoman with an estimated net worth in the several million dollar range.
The new Mrs. Lucas is the president of Ariel Investments, a Chicago-based management firm and mutual funds adviser, and she also plays several lead roles in the company’s various financial subsidies. We’ll likely not see Hobson as a cast member in a future “Real Housewives of Marin County” series, as she keeps herself highly occupied governing the financial houses of corporations like DreamWorks Animation, Starbucks, Estee Lauder and Groupon. This is one busy lady.
Lucas debuted Hobson as his girlfriend at the 2006 Kennedy Center Honors. She has since been spotted on his arm at various high profile events such as the Oscars, the Met Gala, Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People party, the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Globes. Congratulations to the happy, and equally successful, couple.
