“Without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes from cunnilingus,” says Douglas, pictured above with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The interviewer is naturally a little take aback. But Douglas insists that is correct.
“From cunnilinus,” says Douglas. “I mean, I did worry if the stress caused by my son’s incarceration didn’t help trigger it. But yeah, it’s a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer. And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it.”
“It giveth and it taketh,” Douglas finishes.
The Guardian published a follow-up piece about HPV and cancer, citing that out of the 100 or so strains of HPV there are, 15 types are linked to increased cancer risk and that one of those types of cancer is oral cancer. The paper also says that between 25 and 35 percent of oral cancers are HPV-related.
However, while most people rid themselves of HPV within a few years of contracting it, smoking can disrupt that process, which means Douglas’ smoking may also have contributed.
There also isn’t much research to support Douglas’ claim that more oral sex is the cure for HPV and/or throat cancer.
