miguel-cabrera-triple-crown-MLB.jpgDetroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has become Major League Baseball’s first Triple Crown winner since Boston’s Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. Cabrera is the 15th player to accomplish the rare feat.

The Triple Crown is awarded if a player finishes in first place for batting average, home runs and RBIs. Cabrera finished the season atop all three categories in the American League, with .330 avg., 44 home runs and 139 RBIs.

Yastrzemski says in a statement, “I am glad that
he accomplished this while leading his team to the American League
Central title. I was fortunate enough
to win this award in 1967 as part of the Red Sox Impossible Dream
