The editors of Elle magazine have come under fire in recent days for the magazine’s cover shot of “Mike & Molly” star Melissa McCarthy. She’s wearing a coat on the cover, which led a lot of people to believe Elle wanted to cover her up rather than showcase her figure.
Not so, according to McCarthy. “I think they are crazy,” she says to “Access Hollywood” about the criticism. “… I had a great dress on. I was the one who grabbed the coat.”
She also says she “loved” the way the cover came out and wanted to take the coat home with her. McCarthy’s comments echo those of her cousin, Jenny McCarthy, on “The View” last week.
Following the controversy, Elle said in statement that it worked with McCarthy on the cover shoot, and that she looks “gorgeous.”
“We are thrilled to honor her as one of our Women in Hollywood this year,” the magazine says.
