“Million Dollar Arm” is one of those true stories that seems like it must be fiction. But this Zap2it video interview with J.B. Bernstein and Rinku Singh — two of the men whose lives inspired the film — makes it clear that the truth is far more incredible than any story could be.
In the movie, “Mad Men’s” Jon Hamm plays Bernstein, a sports agent who travels to India in order to run a contest to find major-league baseball hopefuls there. He finds two of them — Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel — who are young men who had never touched a baseball before their strong arms made them pro contenders. Their incredible journey from India to baseball players takes up much of the film.
Real life finds both Bernstein and Singh thrilled that their story has been made into a film. “The whole thing is kind of amazing and seems just like a dream,” Bernstein says when asked about seeing his own life on film. Singh, meanwhile, is especially excited that Suraj Sharma (“Life of Pi”) plays him.
“Million Dollar Arm” premieres in the US on Friday, May 16.
