“Friday Night Lights” star Minka Kelly is set to play former First Lady Jackie Kennedy in the new film, “The Butler.” Director Lee Daniels tells Screen Daily why he chose the project, which centers on Eugene Allen, the White House butler who served eight presidents.
Daniels says, “I connected with it because it is ultimately a father son
story with a civil rights backdrop. In my lifetime there were separate
water fountains, swimming pools and toilets for blacks. People forget
that. This is such an exciting journey for me.”
Forrest Whitaker will star as Allen, Oprah Winfrey as his wife, Mathew McConaughey as John
F. Kennedy, John Cusack as Richard Nixon, Alan Rickman as Ronald
Reagan and Jane Fonda as Nancy Regan.
What do you think of the choice of Kelly to play Jackie? Can she pull off a role like this? Will it be better than Katie Holmes? Leave your thoughts below.
